Program
CORE PROGAMMING:
Camp is divided into seven divisions (Juniors 7-9 year olds , Middie A's - 10 year olds, Middie B's - 11 year olds , Inter A's - 12 year olds, Inter B's - 13 year olds , Subs - 14 year olds and Seniors- 15 year olds) with approximately 45 girls in each age group. The groups are divided by grades completed in school. Each division travels together around camp with a Unit leader who serves as the camp "mom" and whose sole responsibility is to ensure the safety and welfare of her respective campers.
Camp Mataponi prides itself in having developed a carefully designed structured program to promote the individual and group development of each camper.
All campers, ages 7-15, have a core curriculum in their daily schedule. Land sports, Watersports, Tennis and Challenge Ropes Course are staples
in the daily lives of all Mataponi girls.
In addition, campers ages 7-12 have daily American Red Cross swimming lessons.
In conjunction with her core schedule, each camper is able to choose electives to compliment her individual interests. Younger campers, ages 7-11 have 2-3 electives weekly while our older campers, ages 12-15, can select up to 4 electives.
SPECIAL EVENTS:
During the camp season, special days and added surprises are introduced
to enrich the camp experience. Highlighted events such as Birthday Ball, Sing, Olympic and Jamboree are just some of Camp Mataponi traditions.
CAMP SISTERS:
Camp sisters are an integral part of the Mataponi program. Every year, two campers from different age brackets are matched up in the spring before the start of the camping season. Their friendship is fostered initially by the older "sister" who introduces camp songs, brings a level of ease to the younger camper and ultimately culminates a friendship that often extends long into the school year.
Weekly camp sister events encourages and cultivates a bond creating a sense of cohesiveness amongst all the girls at Camp Mataponi.
OUT OF CAMP TRIPS:
Each division at camp partakes in out of camp trips capitalizing on Maine's breathtaking mountains and coastline. From sleep outs on our very own island to a 2 day hike up Mount Washington in New Hampshire, local day hikes to canoe trips down the Saco River, campers experience opportunities that simply cannot be paralleled anywhere else.
Campers can look forward to exciting trips as they progress in their years at Mataponi. Continuously tweaking our program and trips to meet the needs and interests of today's camper is what makes our program successful and keeps the girls coming back year after year.
