About Camp

Welcome to Camp Mataponi. Founded in 1910 as a traditional girl's overnight camp, Mataponi is proud to have recently celebrated 100 years in camping.  Rich in tradition, the spirit of the girls of the past 100 summers lives on today in a warm, enriching environment that promotes the development of each child's self confidence.

Camp Mataponi has one seven week session that begins the end of June and concludes the second week in August with approximately 320 girls each summer. We offer a healthy balance of land sports, watersports, fine arts, crafts; ropes challenge courses, outdoor adventure and much more. Each camper's schedule is designed to introduce core activities as well as an opportunity to select electives based on individual interests.

We welcome you to peruse our website to get a glimpse of life at Mataponi and our philosophy. Each section has been designed to give an overview of who we are and what our program can offer to both camper and staff interested in joining the Camp Mataponi family.

Philosophy

Instilling core values, teaching an appreciation for others and learning new skills and activities is what we strive to pass on to our girls at Mataponi. Our motto is "You don't have to be the best, just try your best." It is our belief that healthy competition, in a fun and supportive environment, encourages girls to try new things.

Dan and Marcy.Directors

Marcy and Dan Isdaner have been the owners and operators of Camp Mataponi since 1994. Their conviction is that being "hands on" and "in the trenches" as much as possible allows them to have a pulse on what is happening at camp from daybreak to lights out. Early morning and end of the day meetings with divisional head staff and activity leaders allows Marcy and Dan to discuss the events of the day and focus on the needs of the campers and staff. Being in touch with the daily camp life at Mataponi is paramount to each summer's success.

Both graduates of Boston University, Marcy and Dan initially pursued careers outside of the camping world, but quickly returned to what they loved best from their childhood: summer camp. Nurturing a close- knit family at home with their three daughters, they think, breathe and live camp every day of the year.

Together with a group of highly motivated and skilled staff members, they are proud to carry on the tradition of guiding campers through fun filled and action packed days that create precious summer memories and life long friendships.

Location

Mataponi is situated in the southern part of Maine, in the town of Naples. Located on Sebago Lake, it is 38 miles long and the second largest lake in the state. The camp has over 5000 feet of lakefront. Naples is approximately 30 miles from the Maine coastline which boasts many fine towns and beaches. It is equally the same distance from the White Mountains of New Hampshire, a popular recreational area in both summer and winter. The surrounding countryside is characterized by beautiful lakes and evergreen forests. An easy 2 ½ hour drive from Boston, many families find the Logan airport as convenient as arriving into Portland's Jetport.
